Location: Near Qila, Nainital Road, Bareilly
Alakhnath Temple is one of Bareilly’s most important Shiva temples and is associated with the Anand Akhara of Naga Sadhus. According to local tradition, a saint named Baba Alakhiya performed penance beneath a banyan tree here, which gave the temple its name.
The complex contains the main Shiva shrine, several smaller temples, areas used by saints and a large statue of Lord Hanuman. The temple is especially crowded during Mahashivratri and the month of Sawan. Its history is traditionally believed to extend back more than 900 years.
