Aditya Hridayam Stotram Hymn dedicated to Lord Surya

Share Now:

Aditya Hridayam is a Sanskrit hymn, a devotional song dedicated to sun-god, Lord Surya. Aditya is another name of Surya Deva, which means son of Goddess Aditi according to the Vedas.

Aditya Hridayam stotram is found in Yuddha Kanda of Valmiki Ramayana. Agastya muni recited this powerful Aditya Hridayam stotram to Lord Rama in the battlefield before fighting Lanka-King Ravana. Sage Agastya gives a lesson on how to defeat the enemy by worshiping and surrendering to Aditya.

Aditya Hridaya stotra talks about Lord Surya being Primal force, everyone on the universe including Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva is part of him. Surya is the source, without Surya, there can be no existence. As Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita is Primal lord, Lord Surya is being praised as Primal in Aditya Hridayam.
